John Gradenigo

I represent John Gradenigo. I was born Gian di Gradenigo in Venice, Italy around 1735. (I also appear in French records as Jean de Gradenigo). I was a resident of West Florida during the British colonial period. In 1766, I married Marguerite Krebs, a creole of Mobile (meaning she was born in America to European parents). She was called Margaret in the British records. We had two sons, John and Joseph, whose baptisms on January 17, 1770 were recorded by Rev. Nathanial Cotton, minister of West Florida at the time. According to my 1767 petition for a grant of land on Lake Pontchartrain, I had a family of 10.
