John Glover

I represent John Glover. I was a resident of Pensacola during the British colonial period. I was a Master Carpenter and one of group who were contracted come down to West Florida from New York with our families and slaves in 1772 to perform construction work in the province. We were supposed to go back when the work was done, but because of the outbreak of the American Revolution, we decided to stay. I was considered one of many Loyalist refugees came to West Florida fleeing persecution in “rebel” colonies. I had a wife, four children, and two indentured servants in 1776 when I applied for a grant of land on the Comite River. Whether I built on that land or not, I was counted by the Spanish among the residents of Pensacola remaining at the time of the capitulation on May 10, 1781.
