John Crozer

I represent John Crozer. I was a Deputy Provost Marshal in Pensacola during the British colonial period. As such, I was the official in charge of ensuring security and discipline throughout the colony, and sometimes my duties overlapped the civilian and military realms. I oversaw the “gaols” (British spelling of “jails”) in Pensacola and Mobile. I was elected to represent Pensacola in the House of Commons during the first provincial General Assembly in November 1766, and was elected to represent Campbelltown in the second Assembly in winter 1767. In 1769 I was appointed by the Assembly as register of deeds and conveyances.
