I represent Jeremiah Terry. I was a resident of Pensacola during the British period. I was a rarity in the colony of West Florida – I was American (as in “born in America.”) I served as Deputy Secretary of the Province and sat in the West Florida Council in 1766-77, which council not only advised the governor, but sat as the Upper House of the provincial General Assembly. I was grated 4,050 acres on Bayou Grande in 1767. In 1769 I requested 12-month leave from my duties to attend to personal matters in South Carolina and England. I was also an entrepreneur, and in defending a petition for a land grant, I revealed that in order to qualify for the most acreage I could, I had brought to West Florida 45 German indentured servants and black slaves. I apprenticed free men of color John Paris and Stephen Williams.
