I represent James Conners. I was a sailor on HMS Atalanta. I was born in Bermuda and entered service at the age of 30. The Atalanta was a 14-gun sloop in the Royal Navy. We were attached to the Jamaica squadron, but we found ourselves in Pensacola at various times between 1776 and 1778. One of our jobs was to protect shipping and transport vessels in and out of the Gulf Coast and to watch for smugglers violating trade laws regarding Spanish New Orleans. I died on October 21, 1777, in Pensacola, probably of illness. I may still lie in an unmarked grave there.
