I represent Isaac Monsanto. I was a resident of West Florida during the British period. I was a merchant, originally in New Orleans. I was expelled from New Orleans in 1769 for violating trade laws – technically Jews were not allowed to trade at all because of the Code Noir, but I finally took it a step too far by going up the Mississippi. I settled in Pensacola but I and my family maintained trade with Mobile, Manchac and, yes, New Orleans. I died in 1778 in Pointe Coupée. When the Monsanto Company was founded in 1901, the founder chose the maiden name of his wife, a descendant of my family.
