I represent Francis Hipwood. I was a soldier in His Majesty’s 31st Regiment of Foot. The 31st was an infantry regiment stationed at the garrison of Pensacola. We arrived in 1765 and immediately suffered immense losses due to diseases like yellow fever and dysentery. I died at Pensacola on July 5, 1768, likely of illness, and probably still lie in an unmarked grave there. The September 1768 Return of Women and Children for the 31st Regiment of Foot, Maj. Bromley‘s Company enumerates a Mrs. Hipwood who had one child. Her husband’s name is not listed, but she very well may have been my widow.
