I represent John Litchfield, an ensign in His Majesty’s 16th Regiment of Foot. The Pennsylvania Gazette, 9 AUG 1770, reported: “A duel has lately been fought, at Pensacola, between Lieut. Barker [first name still unknown at this time] and Ensign Litchfield, both of the16th Regiment, in which the former received a Ball in one of the Legs, which Wound, it was feared, would prove mortal.” No report yet on the outcome. The 16th Regiment was in Pensacola for 11 years, from 1770 to the surrender of the town, yet because of missing records, it is the least documented of the regiments who served in West Florida.
