Elias Walker Durnford

I represent Elias Walker Durnford. I was born on July 28, 1773 at my mother’s home in Lowestoffe, Suffolk. I am usually called the oldest son of Lt. Gov. Elias and Rebecca Walker Durnford, but there was an infant born in December 1770, William Elias, who died at only a few months old. I was taken to Pensacola when I was an infant, but I was brought back to England when I was three of four years old. I was in the care of an aunt, the wife of Samuel Fontenelle, who was a surgeon in the royal artillery. I would grow up to follow a career as a military engineer like my father, reaching the rank of Major General.
