I represent Busly Batholimieu, listed as a resident of Pensacola in February 1780. I was identified as an “artificer,” or skilled craftsman. I also appear on a list of residents of Pensacola at the time of its capture by the Spanish in May 1781. In that list, my name is Besly Barkin – apparently no one can decide how to interpret the abbreviations used in my name. I was identified as a carpenter which, in a colony constantly in need of new buildings, would have made me a tidy living.
