I represent Alexander Offut. I was a resident of Pensacola during the British period. In June 1770 I was granted 500 acres about 60 miles above Mobile. My name appears on a listing of inhabitants of the town of Pensacola for February 1780, and I was identified on that list as a merchant. I appear to have owned or captained a sloop that acted as a packet ship (transporting mail, trade goods and even passengers between different stations in the British colonies) as my name is associated with the Sloop Pensacola Packet that came in and out of the port at Savannah in the 1770s.
