Patrick Morgan

I represent Patrick Morgan. I came to British West Florida in 1764 and started out in Pensacola, where I was Deputy Vendue Master for the town. In the 18th century a vendue master was an official public auctioneer. As such, I would have handled the public sale of real estate, livestock, and enslaved people. I appeared in the 1767-1768 ledger of Pensacola merchants Richard and Caleb Carpenter as having purchased rum, soap, candles, and “leather briches.” By 1769 I was beginning to move west but records show I still had connections in Pensacola. In 1770 I was granted 1000 acres on the northeast bank of the Alabama River in a place called Poplar Bluff.
