I represent Samuel Phillip Moore, the son of Alexander and Jane Moore of Pensacola. My father was a merchant, magistrate and planter in West Florida during the British period. I had an older sister named Martha who died at 7 months old of flux (severe dysentery) on August 3, 1770. I was baptized – probably as an infant – on November 16, 1770. I was likely not the only child in the Moore houshold; when my father made a claim to the Crown for property lost in West Florida, he mentioned having a large family.
