I represent Jane McCourt. My husband, John, served in His Majesty’s 16th Regiment of Foot, which joined the garrison at Pensacola in the spring of 1770. John and I had a son named Joseph. Joseph died on November 8, 1770. He probably still lies in an unmarked grave in Pensacola. There is a John McCourt in the records who is the wife of Bridget. They were parents of George McCourt, baptized on July 8, 1770. This John was in the 16th Regiment as well. It may be that Bridget and I are one and the same; though the difference in our names is puzzling.
