John McKenzie

I represent John McKenzie. According to my March 1777 petition for a grant of 1000 acres on the west side of the Escambia River, I left Georgia because of growing revolutionary activity. I was a ship’s master, but the ship was burned in Savannah by American rebels. My grant was postponed until the arrival of my family, but there was no further word on them. My British probate record is dated February 1782, and it indicates that I died in Pensacola. I probably still lie in an unmarked grave in the city.
