I represent the child of Mrs. Lowe enumerated with her in the Return of Women & Children of the 31st Regiment, Capt. Maturin’s company, in September 1768. The 31st was an infantry regiment that arrived in 1765 and – with a brief transfer to St. Augustine in 1769 – remained until 1772. The name of my father is not given in the Return. The August 1768 muster roll for the 31st lists two men in Capt. Maturin’s company named Pvt. James Lowe – one Senior, one Junior – and one of the two is my father.
