Capt. Thomas Lloyd

I represent Thomas Lloyd. I was captain and commander of the sloop of war, HMS Atalanta. At times I was the ranking naval officer at Pensacola, depending on which ships were in the harbor. In March of 1777, I petitioned the West Florida council to allow me to impress men from merchant ships to serve aboard Atalanta – I had orders to go into service immediately but the ship was understaffed. My request was denied, but they agreed to turn over to me all vagrants and idle seamen.
