Pvt. Johann Georg Eberhard Leydenberg

I represent Johann Georg Eberhard Leydenberg. I was a private in the 1st Company, 3rd Waldeck Regiment. I was born on August 18, 1744 in Hameln. My father’s name was Johann Georg Leydenberg. I was Evangelical (which means “Protestant” in this context), and I stood 5′ 4″ tall – which was just about average for the men in my regiment. The 3rd Waldeck Regiment was hired by the British from Waldeck Prince Frederick Karl Augustus to assist them in fighting the American rebels in the Revolutionary War. The Regiment reached North America in 1776. After two years of heavy action the regiment was sent to Pensacola, along with the provincial loyalist forces of Maryland and Pennsylvania. I died of illness in the hospital at Pensacola on July 10, 1779. I probably still lie in an unmarked grave in Pensacola.
