I represent Robert Johnston. I was a sergeant in His Majesty’s 16th Regiment of Foot. The 16th arrived in Pensacola in the spring of 1770. Like so many of my comrades in the British regiments that served on the Gulf Coast, I fell victim to disease. I died of flux – a term which describes severe dysentery – on July 9, 1770. I likely still lie in an unmarked grave in Pensacola.
