I represent James Irving. I was a resident of Pensacola during the British colonial period. I appear in a couple of petitions and lists from 1779 to 1781. Two of those petitions contradict each other – one was requesting the recall of Governor Peter Chester and the other one supported him – though, of course, a man can change his mind. I appears on a list of inhabitants of the town for February 1780 and the Spanish listing of Pensacola residents at the time Pensacola surrendered in May 1781. I was identified as a carpenter or artificer, which means “skilled craftsman.”
