William Holmes

I represent William Holmes. I was a soldier in His Majesty’s 31st Regiment of Foot, Maj. Bromley‘s company. The 31st was an infantry regiment stationed at the garrison of Pensacola. We arrived in 1765 and immediately suffered immense losses due to diseases like yellow fever and dysentery. I died at Pensacola on June 17, 1768, and probably still lie in an unmarked grave there. It is likely that the Mrs. Holmes and her two children enumerated in the Return of Women & Children of the 31st Regiment, Maj. Bromley’s’ Company in Sept 1768 were my family.
