I represent James Graham. I was a sergeant in His Majesty’s 31st Regiment of Foot. The 31st was an infantry regiment stationed at the garrison of Pensacola. We arrived in 1765 and immediately suffered immense losses due to diseases like yellow fever and dysentery. In 1767, I purchased tea, rum (a staple of the British soldier’s diet), vinegar, and molasses from Richard and Caleb Carpenter, Pensacola merchants. I died at Pensacola on July 20, 1768, cause of death not recorded. I probably still lie in an unmarked grave in Pensacola.
