Benjamin Gower

I represent Benjamin Gower. I was in the Ordnance office at Pensacola. “Ordnance” meant the heavy artillery guns and the ammunition that was used in them – think cannonballs. In 1769 I wrote to Engineer John Campbell that I needed more laborers for the ordnance work, which would have been hot and labor-intensive stuff, and the need for a real workshop for the craftsmen. In May 1776, I petitioned for 500 acres on St. Catherine’s Creek, in the desirable western part of the colony.
