Jean-Claude DuPont

I represent Jean-Claude DuPont. I was a French resident of Mobile in British West Florida. I was born in Pascagoula in 1723. My wife was Marie Jeanne Guillory, whom I married in 1760 in Mobile. In 1764 I, like many other Mobilians of French origin, took an oath of loyalty to His Britannic Majesty King George, III. In 1776, petitioned the Crown for a grant of land – 600 acres on the Tallapoosa River. My petition said I had resided many years in the Province but I had been given only 6 acres on Mobile Bay; and that my family consisted of myself, my wife, six children and three enslaved people.
