I represent William Duncan. I was a resident of Pensacola during the British colonial period. I was the Constable and Court Cryer. On May 25, 1767, I put forth a petition to the House of Commons that I be released from jail (“gaol,” as the British say), where I had been since the night before for admitting “some disorderly company into the Assembly House.” After some groveling and begging, I was indeed released. In December 1768, I petitioned for a grant of land, 50 acres northeast of Pensacola. My name appears on the list of inhabitants of Pensacola at the time of the capitulation in May 1781.
