Isaac Chaplin

I represent Isaac Chaplin. My name appears in the 1767-68 ledger books of Pensacola merchants Richard and Caleb Carpenter as having purchased sweetmeats (candy), soap, candles, women’s shoes, and molasses. It is possible I was the husband of Mrs. Chaplain, who was among the women enumerated in the Return of Women & Children of the 31st Regiment, Capt. Hodgson’s Company, in Sept 1768. The return indicated she had 3 children. If she is my wife, then I served in His Majesty’s 31st Regiment of Foot, attached to the garrison at Pensacola.
