I represent James Chalmers. I had been a wealthy planter in Kent County, Maryland before the Revolutionary War began. I helped organize the Maryland Loyalists Regiment and commanded it as a lieutenant colonel. We arrived in Pensacola in December 1778 with Brig. Gen. John Campbell, who also brought the Provincial Corps of Pennsylvania Loyalists and the 3rd Waldeck Regiment to shore up the garrison. I received six months’ leave from Gen. Campbell to go back to New York within a few months of my arrival, but instead of returning, I found myself taking part in the Siege of Charlestown. I was in New York when Pensacola surrendered, thus was not taken as a prisoner of war. After the end of the War, I went back to England. I rejoined the military and served as an inspector general in the West Indies. I died in London in1806.
