Francois Caminada

I represent Francois Caminada. I was a French Protestant who had lived in Louisiana since 1764. Governor George Johnstone persuaded me that my interests lay among fellow Protestants in British West Florida, so I moved to Pensacola. I was appointed to the provincial council, which not only advised the Governor but served as the Upper House of the General Assembly, in 1765. I acquired Lot 80, on the west side of town – a desirable location because of its fresh water sources. I didn’t stay long, though; business was better in New Orleans so I moved back.
