I represent Thomas Taylor Byrd. I was a captain in His Majesty’s 60th (Royal American) Regiment. I made my first petition for a land grand in September. In May 1779, I re-petitioned and included the information that my father was Colonel William Byrd of Virginia, who “had faithfully served His Majesty in His service.” I was a member of the garrison at Pensacola during the siege of 1781. Several times I led a detachment, joined by indigenous warriors under Capt. Alexander Cameron, to take on the Spanish who had begun encroaching closer and closer to the fort. These sorties brought me and my men in close contact with the enemy, sometimes at night.
