I represent Edward Bromley. I was a company commander in His Majesty’s 31st Regiment of Foot. I had served in the 31st for some time – as a lieutenant, I was wounded at the battle of Fontenoy (Belgium) in 1745. By 1757 I had made captain, and I was commissioned Major on April 25, 1765. The 31st was an infantry regiment stationed at the garrison of Pensacola. We arrived in 1765 and immediately suffered immense losses due to diseases like yellow fever and dysentery. We were in Pensacola – with a brief transfer to St. Augustine in 1769 – before leaving for the Caribbean in 1772. After Lt. Col. Ralph Walsh was arrested by the governor in 1766, I became commander of the garrison.
