I represent Juan Brickdale. I was a captain in the Hibernian Regiment, one of three Irish regiments that formed the Irish Brigade of the Spanish Army. Irish soldiers had been serving in Spain for two hundred years by the time of the Revolutionary War, and it was a profitable arrangement for both the Irish-Catholic immigrants and the Spanish Crown. I was born in England in 1756 and entered the Hibernian regiment in 1772. I would eventually become its colonel.
