Pvt. Philipp Boehmer

I represent Philipp Boehmer. I was a private in the 3rd Company of the Waldecker Regiment. I was born in Odenbach. The Waldeck Regiment was hired by the British from Waldeck Prince Frederick Karl Augustus to assist them in fighting the American rebels in the Revolutionary War. The regiment reached North America in 1776, but I did not join them until the recruit shipment of 1777. After two years of heavy action we were sent to Pensacola, along with the provincial loyalist forces of Maryland and Pennsylvania. After the surrender of Pensacola on May 10, 1781, we were all considered prisoners of war. Faced with being sent to New York with the rest of the regiment, I deserted on 17 MAY 1781 and may have joined the Spanish army.
