Rebecca Blackwell

Photo representing Rebecca Blackwell

Represented by Christina Andrews

I represent Rebecca Blackwell, a resident of Pensacola during the British colonial period. I appear in the memoir of Elizabeth Digby Pilott, who described me as one of her few female acquaintances after her arrival in Summer 1765. We eventually became good friends. My husband’s first name was not recorded in the memoir, only “Mr.” I was a civilian woman, so we were not attached to the garrison. My husband may have been Joseph Blackwell – we have land grant petitions made at about the same time (14 and 28 July 1772) for 1000 acres on Thompson’s Creek.
