I represent Thomas Batt. I was a resident of Pensacola, and in January 1780, I was paid by the Crown for cooperage, specifically making kegs to transport rum to the towns of the native peoples. Rum was in high demand in British West Florida, by sailors, civilian residents, and the nearby indigenous nations. While it was sometimes used as an item of trade, the British government often gifted it (among other items of value) as tokens of alliance.
