I represent William Bartram, explorer and naturalist. I am famous for the book I wrote describing my extensive travels through the American Southeast in the mid-1770s, usually called Travels. I passed through West Florida and Pensacola in September of 1775 and likely made time to see Dr. Lorimer and George Gauld, fellow botanists and scientists who were residents of the town. I spent only a few days in the area, but was graciously hosted by Governor Peter Chester and his secretary, Philip Livingston, and by Major General Robert Farmar in Mobile.
