Mrs. Simpson

Photo representing Mrs. Simpson

Represented by Dian Parsley

I represent Mrs. Simpson. I was among the women enumerated in the Return of Women & Children of the 31st Regiment, Capt. Maturin’s Company, in Sept 1768. It was the practice of the British Army to allow their soldiers to bring wives and children to overseas assignments, usually because we had no other way to support ourselves than to accompany them. The name of my husband – if I had one at the time – was not given on the Return. It is possible it was Noah Simpson, who was commissioned an ensign in the 31st in May 1767 and lieutenant in December 1770, but that cannot be confirmed with currently available records. There were no children enumerated with me.
