Capt. Andrew Simpson

I represent Andrew Simpson. Was a captain and company commander in His Majesty’s 35th Regiment. The 35th came to Pensacola early, in 1763, as soon as the British took over the town from the Spanish. At one time, I was the ranking officer of the garrison, and I managed to play a role in the continuing jurisdictional conflicts between Governor George Johnstone and the military leadership. The Governor was not traditionally given dominion over the garrison, but one night he and a couple of very senior officers compelled me to give up the keys.
