I represent John Austin. I was a resident of British West Florida, primarily in Mobile. Like many men of commerce or politics in Mobile, though, I had plenty of dealings in Pensacola. I signed a petition requesting the recall of Governor Peter Chester on March 10, 1779 at the Carolina Coffee House in Pensacola, and took a loan from business partners Messrs. Struthers, Swanson, Midler & McGillivray in the same day. For that loan, I used two enslaved people as collateral.
