I represent John Ross. I was a captain and company commander in His Majesty’s 31st Regiment of Foot. The 31st was an infantry regiment that joined the garrison of Pensacola in 1765 and stayed (with a brief transfer to St. Augustine in 1769) until 1772. I was first commissioned captain in the 95th Regiment on February 25, 1760; I became a captain in the 31st on November 8, 1763. The Mrs. Ross enumerated Return of Women & Children, 31st Regiment of Foot, Capt. Ross’s Company (September 1768) is presumably my wife, though that has not been definitively established.
