I represent Domingo Antonio de Ascano. I served in the Louisiana Regiment under Bernardo de Gálvez. I was born the Canary Islands. My wife, Maria Hernandez, our children, and I arrived around 1778 with a group of Canary Islanders, soldiers and their families who came to both reinforce the Spanish troops and potentially settle in the Spanish New World. Gálvez recruited the most promising soldiers for his Gulf Coast campaign and set the rest to farming and guarding the home front. There were eventually 700 of us, with 1600 wives and children.
