I represent Robert Reid. I was the Master of HMS Tartar. I served under Captain Sir John Lindsay, the commander of the British squadron at West Florida. When we arrived, we discovered that all existing maps of the harbor and shoals were inadequate to safely navigate the waters near Pensacola. Sir John put me on the job … and was able to transmit my three-page “Remarks for [entering] Pensacola Harbour” to the Admiralty on October 31, 1764, together with a new chart by George Gauld.
