Lt. Hubert Rees

I represent Hubert Rees. I was a lieutenant in the West Florida Royal Foresters, a company of light cavalry raised by Maj. Gen. John Campbell in March 1780 and commanded by Adam Chrystie. We fought against the Spanish at such notable battles as Baton Rouge, Mobile, and the Siege of Pensacola. After the surrender of Pensacola on May 10, 1781, the West Florida Royal Foresters were taken, along with the rest of the prisoners of war, to Long Island, New York. The Foresters were, like the other military prisoners, on their honor to not return to duty until they were exchanged, but muster rolls were taken to account for the company’s members. I resigned my commission at some point before those muster rolls began.
