I represent Claude Prieur. I was a private in the 3rd Company of the 3rd Waldeck Regiment. I was born in 1729 in Sugee, France. My religion was Catholic, and I was married. The 3rd Waldeck Regiment was hired by the British from Waldeck Prince Frederick Karl Augustus to assist them in fighting the American rebels in the Revolutionary War. I had 8 years’ previous service in Holland, probably in a Waldeck unit, when I sailed with the regiment to North America in 1776. At that time, I was a private in the 5th company, and a servant to the regimental surgeon. After two years of heavy action we were sent to Pensacola, along with the provincial loyalist forces of Maryland and Pennsylvania. I was transferred to the 3rd Company in December 1779. On April 25, 1781, I was released from the regiment while still in America and invalided back to Germany.
